Test Information in PsycInfo

Tips on searching for test information in PsycINFO

First decide whether you are looking for articles that used a particular test in their methodology or for information about the test itself.

If you are looking for studies that used a particular instrument:

  1. Enter the name of your test in the search box, but omit the scale, inventory part of the name. For example "beck depression" rather than "Beck depression inventory." People tend to remember that part of the name incorrectly.
  2. Select "TM-Tests & Measures" from the drop-down menu adjacent to the search box.
  3. Click Search to retrieve studies that used your test.

If you are looking for information about a test, such as validity or reliability, then your search is very different.

  1. Enter the name of your test in the search box (again omitting the scale, inventory part of the name).
  2. Select "SU-Subjects" from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Search and see if any results are retrieved. If not, then change the drop-down menu back to "Select a Field (Optional)" and click Search
    again.
  4. You can further narrow down your search by adding terms such as "Valid*" or "psychometric*" in the next search box.

To retrieve articles that deal only with the psychometrics (measurements of reliability or validity) of a test:

  1. Enter the name of your test in the search box (again omitting the scale, inventory part of the name).
  2. Leave the drop-down menu at "Select a Field (Optional)."
  3. In the next search box, enter the number 2220 and select "CC-Classification Code" from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Search to retrieve psychometrics for your test.
